One of the great objectives of a geopark is the promotion of Geoscience Education, since a greater knowledge and understanding of Earth’s dynamics contributes to the development of a more conscious and active society regarding environmental issues.

The Estrela Aspiring Geopark, through the development of educational programs, fosters a direct contact with geological and geomorphological heritage, promoting education and awareness among teachers and students towards the importance of heritage conservation, which is fundamental for understanding the history and evolution of planet Earth and the beings that inhabit it.

The educational programs of the Estrela Aspiring Geopark were elaborated based on the programs and curricular goals of the Ministry of Education, and intend to assist teachers in the teaching of Geosciences, constituting an important complement to school programs, in an outdoor learning logic.

For the 2017/2018 school year, this aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark has diversified its educational programs, including outdoor and indoor programs, as well as training actions for teachers.
